• Diesel car from before 2018 with very low mileage suggests city-only use — DPF is likely clogged or has been removed (illegal). Check DPF status and EGR condition.
• XC90 D5 diesel (278 listings, avg 120k km, €37k) — twin-charged D5 engine is complex: swirl flap failures, DPF regeneration issues in city driving, injector seal leaks, and turbo actuator failures after 100k. AWD Haldex coupling needs service every 40k km (often skipped).
• V40 diesel (381 listings, avg 176k km, only €9k) — mostly ex-fleet cars from Western Europe. At 176k avg: DPF is near replacement (€1500-2500), dual mass flywheel worn (€800-1200), and D2/D3 engines have known injector seal failure causing white smoke. Cheap to buy, watch for hidden costs.
